Dave Lampson, our wonderful moderator, recounts a story of mutant CDs
switching labels and tracks behind our backs.

I don't collect these disks, although I do have a mutant disk of my own
to mention. After the Beethoven symphony thread a few weeks ago, I went
out and spent way too much money on a whole slew of symphony recordings,
including the newly remastered 1963 Karajan set. The final disk
(containing the ninth symphony) contains a bonus track: Beethoven's
Coriolan overture, op. 62! And this bonus track is not at the end -- it's
at the beginning, which caused a bit of confusion on my part. I sat down
to listen, expected the subdued opening of this symphony (which, the first
time I heard it, reminded me of an orchestra tuning), and instead got the
great sfortzando chords of that overture.

The other tracks on the disk are all pushed one down, making the symphony
begin on track two. It's weird -- a great performance of the overture,
though!
