Joel Lazar wrote with a review from The Washington Post:
>Self-promotion, absolutely shameless...
And why not? A self-pat on the back can be an honest acknowledgement of an
achievement and satisfaction with one's work and in this case, is praise
absolutely deserved.
I attended the world premiere performance of "Rescue in Denmark Symphony"
Wednesday evening at Washington's Adas Israel Congregation and found it a
very moving and emotional experience. Joel Lazar's inspired and sensitive
direction was responsible for the success of this first performance of
a deeply moving and thought provoking new work by Arnold Saltzman. The
Orchestra and Choirs responded magnificently. Distinguished guests,
including the former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark and the newly appointed
Danish Ambassador to the U.S., members of the Congregation and the general
public, like myself, greeted the performance with a spontaneous standing
ovation.
I'm very pleased that a CD is planned, as I came away immediately wanting
to hear it again and this work and the message it conveys deserves to be
heard by a universal audience. I trust that Joel Lazar and the other fine
musicians and singers who worked very hard to make this first performance
such an overwhelming success will be part of the CD production.
Thank you, Joel, and your colleagues, for an unforgetable and profound
musical experience.
