I must say, I am quite offended by this. I guess I shouldn't be since
nothing within this posting by John is based in anything factual. My
reasons for disliking Liszt's music are my own. They are the product of
my own personal tastes. I have read about Liszt although never a full-on
Liszt biography. I want to make it clear that I have read nothing but
positive things about him. If I were to base my opinions on what I have
read about Liszt then I would surely be the greatest Liszt fan. Where John
pulled his idea from I haven't the slightest idea.
I like some Liszt. The consolations are quite lovely in my book. What is
that...maybe 1 percent of his output? I have heard MUCH more Liszt and I
have never really been attracted to any of it. Most of it really turned me
off. This is my reality, my experience, with the music of Franz Liszt. It
isn't any less just or correct or tasteful than the experiences of Deryk
Barker or M. Rasmussen or John Smyth. For someone to say that Liszt's
symphonic music is superior to Schumann's sounds as absurd to me as my
dislike for Liszt sounds to those same people. Anyway, good to hear from
you again John!:)
