Mats Normann responds to Steve Schwartz:
>>I've never heard any orchestral work by Gade, including the op. 1.
>>I've heard a bit of chamber music, however. It dind't do very much
>>for me, I'm afraid. I found it "nice," but that was it.

>Isn't it a little picky to make such a statement with having heard
>so little? I suggest take a listen to "Elverskud" and
>"Fruehlingsphantasie".
Steve probably shouldn't give much consideration to my strong
recommendation for Elverskud, since I also very much like Gade's string
quartets. But I find Elverskud, a cantata for voices, orchestra, and
chorus, a powerful and imagery packed work. I have the Kitaienko recording
on Chandos, play it fairly frequently, and would never part with it. It's
Gade at his best.
