Prout prepared what for many years was the standard edition of the
'Messiah'.  There are words which can be sung to the opening of one of
the standard Bach organ fugues which begin as follows:  'O Ebenezer Prout,
you are a silly man, you ought to play Bach fugues as fast as you can ....'
