I know that Richter, Klemperer, Wagner, and Mahler followed "the German
tradition" of presenting the third and fourth movements more than twice
as slow as Beethoven marked.  Does Leinsdorf's recording play them as
marked...  the way Mackerras and a few others do? I have always preferred
those conductors who could put Beethoven's pacing to good use...  more joy
in the Ode to Joy, etc.
