As far as non-musical information, all I know is that he was born in the
1880's and must be oong gone by now.

Concerning the music, I've been collecting his string quartet series
on Russian Disc.  There are six volumes, and I have two more to go.  I
think the quartets are very good, in the same league as Zemlinsky's and
Schmidt's, but not up to the level of Shostakovich.  Many, if not all, of
his symphonies have been recorded on Russian Disc and Marco Polo, but I
haven't heard any of them yet.

The catalog numbers for the quartets are:

11013 - 11031 - 11032 - 11033 - 11034 - 11035.

Ron, just add these recordings to your "buy" list.  YOu won't regret it.
