Hi Dianne, Interestingly enough, i just consulted with a baby with very
similar "nipple antics" last night. She, however, wasn' t being latched
properly AND had very severe thrush on the BACK of her tongue, not much on
the front, I really had to look for it.
It sounds as if your baby is uncomfortable with the deep latch, is the nipple
very long? Or could it be where the milk is squirting bothers her or the
larger amt? How does she respond to compression? It doesn't sound like the
amt. since she doesn't choke or sputter. I will say that out of the many,
many babies I have seen with reflux, i can't remember seeing one reflux milk
out of their nose, THAT makes me ? some subtle anatomical problem. Almost
all newborns reflux to a certain degree, the incidence and severity lessens
with age, at 31/2 mths. , it seems unlikely that this is the total picture.
Good Luck!
