Singerswise by far the best performance in my opinion is the Pinza,
Gigli, Caniglia, Stignani - Tulio Serafin conducting the Rome Opera House
Orchestra (EMI, 1939- on CD DUTTON CDLX 7010). Old but very good sound
from 78s.

Conductorwise try any of the Toscanini four versions:
1. 27 May 1938, London, BBC, Melodram MEL 28022
2. 23 Nov 1940, NBC, M&A CD-240
3. 04 March 1938, NBC, Legato LCD 178
4. NBC, RCA (Studio)
5. 1950, La Scala, CD?: dream team: Tebaldi, Elmo, Raimondi, Siepi

Soundwise Guilini is good (EMI)

Hope to help
