When I was at IU one of the string players I knew talked about a quintet
coach who said something about leaving out a chord in a repeat in the
Schubert C-major quintet.  Thus taking part of a repeat instead of the
whole one is a distinct (if bizarre) possibility.  Another controversy:
does the repeat in the first movement of Beethoven's "Pathetique" sonata
include the slow introduction or not?
