Heaven knows - maybe the US wasn't signatory to the Berne Convention.
I checked this out and the story comes from Stravinsky himself (liner note
to the 1962 LP of his own performance).  I mailed it to Jim Tobin (?) and
don't have the time to re-enter it.  Jim?
