Lactnetters, Just had to send a note about the prescribing of herbals. First,
herbs are not drugs, not regulated by the FDA (and hope it stays that way).
Recommending herbals would be like discussing dietary or life-style
information. The European model is one we should look at, education rather
than regulation. Educate yourself and your patients about BF,herbs,adapting
to mothering. We all know that a big part of an LC practice is listening,
comforting, guiding. We cannot diagnose or prescribe drugs, we can and should
offer recommendations within our scope. Make sure we do it responsibly and
learn all you can about all wholistic modalities,from counseling to nutrition
