SALARY RANGE: $28,292 - $44,171

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking an Architectural
Historian  to join our regional cultural resource team serving Central
Virginia.  This position ensures historic property issues are incorporated
into the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of  our
transportation facilities.   The Architectural Historian applies historic
preservation techniques, principles, and practices in the collection and
analysis of cultural resources data to identify and assess the significance
of architectural structures and historic landscapes, determine the effect of
transportation projects on significant resources, and develop appropriate
treatments for affected resources in project design and construction.
Related responsibilities include management of the work of VDOT's cultural
resource consultants and coordination of historic architectural findings
with VDOT's environmental review and project design and construction staffs,
Federal and State regulatory agencies, local governments, and the general
public.  The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to
apply cultural resource management techniques and principles to
transportation projects in accordance with Federal and State legal and
regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures, and to communicate
effectively both orally and in writing.  Education/experience must be
consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's professional qualification
standards for architectural history.  Valid driver's license required.  DMV
record will be secured and considered in making a selection.
