Dear List Members: Those of you who live in Southern California, or who
may happen to be in the area, might be interested in joining us for the
following event (a similar one was held last year and we had lots of fun).
For any questions, see below:
Join us on Saturday, September 2 to celebrate Bruckner's 176th
birthday (two days ahead of schedule) in Carlsbad, California. This
year's event is dedicated to the memory of the great Brucknerian that
was Georg Tintner. In addition to playing his outstanding recording
of the first version of the 1st symphony, we'll also be featuring a
wonderful interview Mr. Tintner gave to CBC radio (including a
fabulous anecdote involving Bruckner and Klemperer to which Mr.
Tintner was witness).
As we did last year, we'll play the symphonies in an informal setting,
with intermissions between works and plenty of food/drinks to keep
us going. Once more, we have not tried to come up with a list of
'best' recordings, but rather with a selection of recordings we
believe to have special merits (attendees can pick up a pamphlet with
our notes about this year's selections).
