I would suggest that music with a continuous drum beat was/is made for
dancing or derives stylistically from music that was originally made for
dancing or mimics and should remind of music made for dancing. IMHO a lot
of muisc that would fit into this category is not pop, e.g. most jazz,
some art-rock, some folk, especially Bebop and Free Jazz and whatever
happened to these styles till now.
