I take that as an invitation to tell of my experience. About 30+ years
ago, when I lived very briefly in Winter Park FL, I went to a concert to
hear Julius Katchen play the Brahms d minor concerto. I couldn't help but
hear the people in the row behind me discussing the program and
particularly the conductor in rather personal terms.. After some time, I
couldn't resist and turned to see who the people were. My jaw must have
dropped when I recognized Katchen himself sitting with with the wife of
the conductor. He must have been able to tell that I recognized him and
he just gave me a big smile.
He disappeared during the intermission and reappeared at the piano for the
second half of the concert.
