This is not at all as rare as one might expect.  I have known several
distinguished mathematicians through the years; one was very bad at
figuring what change he should get when shopping, one remembered the
total of his two car numbers but did not know each separately, and one, a
distinguished theoretical physicist--turned musician, was just no good at
simple arithmetic.  I wonder if there are musician equivalents of this--a
great musician who was not good at one or more of basic musical skills?
