The new free Encyclopedia Britannica website at www.britannica.com has
links to websites on a myriad of topics. In the classical music list
appears the following:

ClassicalNet Home Page

  Dave Lampson

Rating [four out of five stars]

Comprehensive introduction to the central repertoire and composers of
classical music, aimed at the general listener. Provides links to over
2,200 informational files, including basic repertoire lists, a CD buying
guide, hundreds of CD reviews, and brief profiles of composers and their
works. Features a directory of over 2,000 sites relating to composers,
performers, societies, publishers, and record companies. Together with
a wealth of information and reviews that could prove invaluable in the
development of a classical CD collection, this site offers a readable,
nonscholarly introduction to the history of classical music and a superb
starting point for locating material on almost any topic relating to
classical music.

[Occasionally someone inquires about the site traffic at Classical Net
and whether it has been growing. As is usual this time of year, the
site has seen a surge in traffic. I'm still trying to compile statistics
for the year to date (almost 20 million log entries will bring just about
any statistics analysis package to its knees), but the numbers for the
first week of November show about half a million hits by more than 55,000
visitors. Nearly every day this month has set a new record for traffic,
so these numbers have already been eclipsed. Thanks for your support, and
of course my special thanks to all who have contributed to the site over
the years to make it what it is today. -Dave]
