Kinderman is, almost uniquely, both a heavy-duty academic and a fine
performing musician. He has written an entire book on the Diabelllis plus
another on Beethoven. Alfred Brendel gets him to write programme notes.

While his Diabelli's don't always smile as much as they could, you'll never
hear a more intelligent performance.

WK is on faculty at the University of Victoria and I heard him perform the
DVs and Op.111 in concert a few years back. His approach to the DVs was
extraordinary - he walked onto the stage, sat down and started playing
almost before he'd finished sitting. You could almost hear the composer
saying "right, let's dispatch this cobbler's patch quickly".

When I was in England 6 months back I caught part of one of the Great
Composers profiles that I think PBS reshowed. WK was priminent in the
Beethoven one.
