I am confused about Andrianos' reference to 30 CEUs. If she is referring to CERPs, I was under the impression that 75/ in 5 years is required for recertification and that 30 in 3 yrs is required to sit the exam(in addition to other pre-reqs). I agree that that number may be too low, but keep in mind that many people think it is too hhgih and too costly! The big problem, of course, is all the work that has shown that other professions who use ONLY continuing education to maintain certification/licensure do NOT remain current in their practice patterns. Only examination comes close to assuring at least minimal competency. WHy should we expect that LCs would be any different? Anyone ever been to a conference with (mostly) MDs? The few times I have I was amazed at how busy the tennis courts and golf courses were and how empty (relative to number of "registrants" for the conference) the conference sessions! Compare that to those crowded rooms at ILCA Conferences. LCs do not seem to go to conferences to "play" in nearly the same way as others. Or am I just biased? %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% %% "We are all faced with a series of great %% %% opportunities brilliantly disguised as %% %% impossible situations" - definition of a %% %% lactation consulting service. %% %% Kathleen G.
