Please forgive me if others have already answered your query. The Manitoba Museum has both a large Bombardier (essentially a school bus on tracks) and a single person Ski-Doo snowmobile on display. Both were early vintage machines (1960's) and were simply to look at, across guard rails that keep visitors back. Bombardier builds snowmobiles, personal watercraft, trains, aircraft, etc. There is a J. Armand Bombardier Museum in Valcourt, Quebec, Canada (see www.fjab.qc.ca/entrance.htm) that has a wide variety of displays, including interactive sit-on and drive (simulated) snowmobiles. Bombardier was rationalizing the expense of running a museum, the last time I spoke to my contact, the curator. The Canada Museum of Science and Technology has/had a ride-on snowmobile simulator, I think that originated from the J. Armand Bombardier Museum. You could check with them. Last time I spoke to their staff, the exhibit was very, very popular. The snowmobile tilts side to side and up and down according to the projected image of driving through the forest on a twisty snowmobile trail. Fun! Hope it helps, George Wurtak [log in to unmask] ****************************************************** Date: Mon, 22 Aug 2005 04:01:28 -0700 From: Andy Lloyd <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Arctic circle science ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions. **************************************************************************** * Hi I have a query for colleagues in the US or Canada. Does anyone have a real snowmobile in their exhibition? As part of a new exhibition on environmental adaptation we would like to have a real snowmobile that visitors can sit on while they do other activities. One of our options is to import a vehicle from North America. If anyone over there already displays a snowmobile, presumably you have worked with a supplier to secure loose/moving parts (we don't necessarily want a working unit). Would anyone be able to offer any advice or suggest people we should contact? Many thanks Andy Lloyd Life Science Centre Newcastle, UK *********************************************************************** More information about the Informal Science Education Network and the Association of Science-Technology Centers may be found at http://www.astc.org.
