ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions. ***************************************************************************** Dear Mr. Yuan: We are writing to you in response to your recent e-mail message on the ASTC list, regarding exhibits and programs that address data collection and modeling of environmental indicators such as CO2. We would love to talk with you about such a project. Our work is with educators across the country on climate change/global warming science. In making our contribution, the emphasis is: 1) Museums and science centers; 2) Hands-on science activities and demos; 3) The high school curriculum Global Systems Science; and 4) Encouraging collaboration among educators, scientists, government, artists, and others. Locally, our work is primarily based out of Chabot Space & Science Center (Oakland) and the Lawrence Hall of Science (UC Berkeley), with ties to the California Academy of Sciences, the Exploratorium and others. Our experience is that global warming and C02 monitoring is of tremendous interest to the public, especially locally. At our centers, we know how to make it fun and involving, as it is a great science & tech subject. And, it is quite fundable. To get a better idea of our work and approach, please visit our new website: www.climatechangeeducation.org You'll see fresh additions almost every day, with much more to come. In a test run, during its first six weeks, the site attracted a minimum of 1000 hits per week. It was created, in part, to help people like you. ------------------------------------------ Interest from The Tech is very welcome indeed. We encourage mutual support and a well- coordinated approach. Each of the institutions we work with is producing material that compliments the others. There is no question that The Tech can put together a great exhibit, without fear of being a repeat of what others in the Bay Area have produced. Mr. Yuan, would you be open to a phone chat? We would like to better introduce ourselves, and talk with you about your project, including very specific, practical ways that we might be of help in what you described in your e-mail. If so, we would be very pleased to arrange a time that works for you, and for one or two of us. Among us, Shelly is the best one to arrange an initial phone conversation with. Please write back to her at [log in to unmask] Or call 925-287-0390 after 4:30 p.m. We look forward to talking with you. Yours, James Callahan** Julio Magalhaes Shelly Ryan **Earth and Environmental Science Program Committee, Chabot Space and Science Center.
