Thanks Charlie. Interesting that even as the economic gap widens marriage
is becoming more socially egalitarian. Segregation by ethnicity is
shrinking. And of course there's an increase in same sex marriage. The
incarceration rate is such a heart-breaker. I'd be interested to hear about
any ISE programs serving those families with an incarcerated parent as well
as any museum programs for same-sex parents. Maybe that would seem terribly
un-PC to offer "segregated" programming for the LGBT community (and
supporters), but helping parents find other families in similar
circumstances and and giving them a safe environment with no stares once in
a while could be a god thing. As the mother of a child with autism, I
appreciate the chance to attend museums during designated times when I can
let down my guard and not spend the whole time apologizing and explaining
if my son doesn't behave as expected.

And as for families dealing with incarceration it could be interesting to
give the parents and kids activities to do that let the parent support the
child's learning during visiting hours or remotely. Just speculating.
