Good morning,

Do you know why taste
sense is so important for survival and evolution? Did you know that exercise
will make you smarter by increasing the size of your brain? Or that exercise
helps you sleep by manipulating your brain temperature and immune system? How
about how exercise improves your mood by using the chemicals similar to those
in marijuana?

These are some of the recent topics on a free online
resource developed to increase learner engagement and educator content
knowledge. “As Many Exceptions As Rules” tells the stories of organisms that
break biological rules or norms in order to survive and thrive. Through these
stories, the core concepts of the science are reinforced.

The resource can be accessed at : http://biologicalexceptions.blogspot.com

Posted weekly, each story includes pertinent vocabulary with
etymology, interesting questions to spark discussion, links to the reports from
the latest research on the subject being discussed, and a list of online
resources for more information and classroom activities.

Upcoming stories will
include further a series on taste sense. Humans and other mammals have eight or
more tastes, and insects have even more. Cats can’t taste sweet things, but
supertasters taste everything more, even non-tastes. Did you know that you have
taste receptors in your gut, pancreas, brain, and perhaps every cell? Finally,
The catfish is the best taster in the world, but some insects can taste with
their wings and the egg-laying parts.

posts, reply to the sender individually.
