I'm writing up an overview of "personalizing the museum visit" for ASTC
Dimensions and am hoping to tap the collective memory of this group for a
minute:
Does anyone remember a networked exhibit done at the Franklin Institute in
the early 1990's that tracked visitors by type, e.g. teacher, child,
family? I remember learning about it from someone who said the visitors
became preoccupied with the info they weren't shown, but I don't have the
details. Any leads on the name of the exhibit or who worked on it and who
evaluated it?
I'm curious to hear about other examples of personalized exhibits that
stood out for you in the last two decades. I have examples from The Tech,
the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Chicago Children's Museum.
Expedition Health done by Jeff Kennedy and the Denver Museum of Nature and
Science is a major one recently, and the U.S. Holocaust Museum and the LA
Museum of Tolerance from farther back, and the Sony center in NYC even
earlier. Am I missing any seminal works? (We could broaden the definition
of personalizing, of course, to include just about every health exhibit and
every exhibit where you make something to take home...)
