I am pleased to announce the ASTC Diversity and Leadership Development Fellows Program for 2013. Launched in 2001 as an extension of the YouthALIVE! initiative, the ASTC Diversity and Leadership Development Fellows program is the cornerstone of ASTC's equity and diversity initiative. The Fellowship exemplifies ASTC members' commitment to reflecting the diversity of the audiences they serve, by supporting the development and advancement of science center professionals from ethnic/racial minority backgrounds, with disabilities and those who identify as LGBT.

In addition to leadership development workshops, membership in a professional peer network of more than 100 alumni Fellows, and mentoring activities designed to enhance career development in the science center field, Fellows receive complimentary registration to the 2013 ASTC annual conference in Albuquerque, NM and a stipend of up to $1,000 to defray the cost of conference-related travel and lodging. Please take a moment to consider this professional development opportunity for possible candidates on your staff.

Fellows from previous years have represented more than 50 different member institutions, with origins in a half-dozen traditionally underrepresented groups as well as being diverse in age and professional roles. In addition to making new contacts in the field, Fellows report returning to their institutions with new ideas and a commitment to assist their science centers in becoming more inclusive. This year, as in past years, several alumni have developed and will participate in Conference sessions.

Applications for new and alumni fellows and detailed eligibility criteria can be found on the ASTC website at www.astc.org/about/awards/conference_fellow.htm. Submission deadline is May 10, 2013. If there are multiple new fellow applicants from your institution, please be aware that only ONE new fellow and ONE alumni fellow will be selected from each institution.
Please direct all questions to me at [log in to unmask] or by phone at 202-783-7200 ext. 139.

Sincerely,
Laura
