ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Hello Ari,

I was recently reviewing the workshops that will be offered at the Visitor Studies Association conference this summer and came across this project:

"As the result of a three year research study (2006-2009) funded by the National Science Foundation, Boston Children’s Museum and Dr. Lorrie Beaumont have created the Adult-Child Interaction Inventory (ACII), a free tool designed to assist museum professionals in assessing the efficacy of their exhibits and programs in engaging adult caretakers of young children."

You can find reports on the studies done to develop the inventory as well as the inventory itself on informalscience.org.

Here at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, our goal is to always design exhibits and programs that encourage adults to interact with their children, but your project is particularly relevant because we are in the midst of renovating our early childhood gallery and have been spending a lot of time lately thinking about our youngest visitors in particular. Best of luck with your research, and if you uncover a magic formula, let us know!
