Dear Colleagues:
The Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE) invites you to join co-PIs Jamie Bell, Kevin Crowley, Kirsten Ellenbogen, Sue Ellen McCann and John Falk, as well as CAISE advisors and staff, and program officers from the NSF Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) Program for an online forum from January 16th to January 18th, 2013.
The goal of the forum is to asynchronously convene researchers and practitioners at all levels, and those who work within both realms from all sectors of the informal science education (ISE), to help characterize the field with regard to the dynamics between practice and research (education, learning sciences, social science, and other disciplines).
Ultimately, this forum is part of a series of events to identify what types of resources and connectivity CAISE might create and disseminate to support this work in the future. During the three-day forum we will facilitate discussions around the following topics:
-The existing and potential relationships between ISE practice and research
-Prior work that has been undertaken in this area, e.g., what structures, assets, and resources exist in the ISE field to support healthy, generative dialogue between practice and research, and what else could be done to create and better support connections?
-The factors that affect ISE practitioners' and researchers' decision-making processes
To join the forum, please visit ASTC Connect (http://connect.astc.org) and click on the CAISE Forum on Practice-and-Research link. If you aren't already a member of ASTC Connect, you will need to create a new account to gain access to the forum by following the onscreen instructions. Although you can register at any time, the discussion will not be live until Wednesday, January 16th. When the forum has concluded it will be archived at http://www.caiseconveningwiki.org.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to participate in this important dialogue. We look forward to learning more from you!
Sincerely,
CAISE Co-PIs, Advisors, and Staff
P.S. Please share this note with others who may be interested!
