Kathy:
Bill Trammell, again. Another thought is to try groups like the Retired
Teachers Association, especially science and math teachers, and
organizations like the local American Chemical Society section or other
technical groups. I'll try to get you the info on a local contact for the
ACS.
Bill

Kathy:
When I was with Fort Discovery in Augusta, we had great results with
missionaries from the Mormon Church. They come in pairs; normally we had 2
pairs working at a time. They are neat, polite and hard working. Their only
requirement is that the 2 team members need to work within sight of each
other. I guess it's sort of intended to protect either party from being
tempted, entrapped or something of this sort.

Join the club! We are a small place, and have about 25 really solid,
dedicated people, but the challenge is when the students go back to school
and the adults (!) get jobs. You are dealing with a funky job market, and
if someone has the opportunity to work for cash, they will grab it before
volunteering. On the flip side, I have done well with students through
local museum studies programs who are looking for experience, and others who
just want to do something to keep them busy while unemployed.

> Hey Everyone:
> My latest struggle is in the area of our volunteer program. We are large
museum with MANY opportunities for volunteers (too Many?) to be involved,
yet we have a very hard time recruiting and maintaining our numbers. We have
a small but very dedicated group of individuals and can't seem to grow much
beyond that. On top of that we have had a high turnover in the management of
this program and I am once again hiring for the position. I would really
like to talk with any of you out there that have experience in this area or
if you have contacts that you might recommend. Before I hire yet another
manager I would like to discuss with others how your programs work.
