By 2050 America must completely transform its entire electrical infrastructure - a challenge equal to the entire mobilization efforts for World War II. Beyond the Light Switch, a new two-part documentary series from Detroit Public Television, lays out the energy facts and conundrums facing all of us. Hosted by Scientific American Magazine's energy & environment editor, David Biello, and guided by an independent advisory panel, Beyond the Light Switch thoughtfully explores the trade-offs of carbon capture and storage, hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, a nuclear renaissance, the costs of solar power, the sprawl of wind power and the feasibility of a super grid. Balanced, provocative and informative, Beyond the Light Switch guides viewers through many of the political, social, technological and environmental issues.
For a limited time (the next three months) Detroit Public Television will offer free DVD screeners of Beyond the Light Switch for museums to host a community screening of BTLS. Free screeners will be limited to the first 100 requests.
The series premieres nationally on PBS stations in April 2011; check local listings, or go to www.beyondthelightswitch.com<http://www.beyondthelightswitch.com/>. For more information, contact Kristin Fellows, [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
