ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

I've run them out of history museums, but not science centers. We packed everything into a 15' box van and traveled throughout the state, moving into a community for a week at a time. During that week, we would teach every kid in the school (or district, if small), hold teacher professional development meetings, and a community open house. Things to keep in mind:

Make sure you have all aspects of your bookings nailed down before you get there.

Damage in transit. Tie it all down, and use movers' blankets.

Assistance with loading and unloading (I got sympathy from janitors and male principals, as during that time, I was pregnant with my first child!)

Do a site visit first to check out where you will be setting up. The last thing you want are surprises.

If it is an overnighter, someone from the school/community should set you up in a hotel.

If you are going out of town, check out ALL the local resources. Our program had an artist-in-residence program, and in one case, the artist was a dancer and a strict vegetarian. Finding a place to eat in an exceptionally rural area was not so easy twenty years ago!

Good luck, life on the road is a blast!
