Although one book was made into a pretty lousy movie, the old Doc Savage stories from the 30's and 40's included Doc's aids who included among their number an industrial chemist, electrical engineer, civil engineer, and geologist/archivist. Savage himself was a physician, surgeon, scientist, adventurer, inventor, explorer, researcher, and a musician. They tended to solve crimes intellectually resorting to violence only when necessary. It was a movie, but a bad one.

On the other hand, one cannot help but see Doc Savage as an influence on the movie The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension! which includes a team of adventurers, scientists, neurosurgeons and rock stars saving the earth from invaders from the 8th dimension. This film also includes a network of amateurs who can be called upon to help the central team.

You might also benefit from a perusal of From Faust to Strangelove: Representations of the Scientist in Western Literature by Roslynn Haynes. Though mostly about literature, it does include consideration of films up to the early to mid 1960's.

Just trying to think outside the box this morning.
