We have a nice, and incredibly popular bubble booth designed in house
and fabricated by a good local company that specializes in stainless
steel fabrication.
Here are four points I'd make about the bubble booth:
1.The bubble reservoir gets pretty gunky. It needs to be topped-off
daily and cleaned weekly. Think about this during the design phase. A
drain or a clean-out is vital.
2. Soap wafts across the gallery. You could have worse problems, but
you will find a soapy film on nearby exhibits. The amount of territory
the soap will claim depends on gallery air flow patterns. Obviously,
the best location for a bubble booth would be in a water play area that
is rinsed down regularly.
3. During busy times, people are lining up outside the bubble booth.
It's one of those exhibits that some visitors seek immediately
following admission. Assuming your public is similar to ours, you'll
want to consider this in terms of your traffic patterns and gallery
layout.
4. One more thing, our exhibits director has long wanted to redesign
our booth so that wheelchairs could get into it. It's certainly a
layer of complexity in the design of the booth (especially barring the
option of putting the soap reservoir below floor grade), but it's a
noble and fabulous idea worth considering on the front end of planning.
Good luck!
