ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Hi Everyone:
We're looking at getting some new plastic membership cards, similar to
what you would get at a grocery store or pharmacy. We would be able to
swipe them at our front desk and know whether the card holder was a
current member. The catch is that for OUR purposes, these generic cards
would not need to have a name and expiration date printed on them.
But what would happen when a Sci-Port member visits another city and
wants to use their generic membership card to get discounted or free
admission to another ASTC institution? How would other institutions
react if a Sci-Port member presented a card with no name on it at their
counter in another city? Would it be enough to have Sci-Port's
800-number on the front of the card with a message saying "call to
verify cardholder's current membership"?
What I'm really asking is whether ASTC as a trade organization has
standards for how we should identify members of the constituent
institutions. Anyone know?
Thanks,
Rebecca
