ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.
*****************************************************************************

U.S.-based ASTC member institutions are encouraged to participate in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition (FRC). Through FRC, teams of 25 or more high school students work alongside professional engineers to build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. ASTC partner jcpenney is making available $6,500 grants to cover the full cost of registration and initial materials for the FRC program. Grant recipients are paired with a jcpenney store, providing a source of support and partnership. The deadline for applications is October 15.

Interested science centers and museums are invited to participate in one of two explanatory conference calls led by jcpenney, which are scheduled for Thursday, August 25, and Tuesday, August 30, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. To register for one of the conference calls, contact Katie McCarthy at (202) 783-7200 or [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
