Dear colleagues,
Pacific Science Center is delighted to announce a new resource developed
under our Portal to the Public grant funded by NSF. This document
captures insights expressed during a Portal to the Public Synthesis
Meeting, held at Pacific Science Center in January 2008. The meeting
goal was to facilitate conversations amongst experts that would identify
current initiatives, best practices, and future directions regarding
activities in the field that:
a. Support partnership and collaboration between research
organizations and informal science education institutions,
b. Involve face-to-face interactions between scientists and public
audiences, and
c. Involve professional development that prepares scientists to
work effectively when interacting face-to-face with public audiences.
We hope this document will become a lasting resource for professionals
committed to sharing current science with public audiences. A full
report and a summary version can be downloaded at
www.pacificsciencecenter.org/portal (navigate to Synthesis Meeting
page).
