Hi Amber: I use WebEx for our webinars and have used several platforms such as Elluminate, ReadyTalk for these programs and have had great success with WebEx. It's very user friendly and people get how to use it pretty quickly. File sharing is easy, video can be a bit problematic, but that's pretty much where we are with any of these tools. I recently heard of iMeet: https://imeet.com/ and that looked very user friendly.
For keeping and documenting and collaborating on documents, PB works: http://pbworks.com/ is a nice platform. With any of these things, whether it's that or Basecamp, Google pages, etc. having a sense of how you want to organize things and making it easy for people to find them and how they will interact with the documents is really more important than the platform you use, in my opinion. Once you have a sense of that, it may be easier to decide which one to used based on your needs.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your project, sounds interesting.
Kindest regards,
Robert

Subject: Basecamp/Online Collaboration Program Advice

Aloha all,
As part of the Bishop Museum NASA funded 'Celestial Islands' project, we are collaborating with 6 Elementary teachers state wide to develop a 3-5th grade, standards aligned curriculum. As the teachers are geographically separated, we are wanting to set up a good online collaborative tool which will double for project management. Ideally the tool will allow the Museum to collaborate with at minimum the following abilities: File, video and image sharing, member profile, discussion forums, scheduling (calendar), project timeline and task management, brainstorming, web conferencing etc.
The 6 member teacher team as well as other project partners have suggested Ecommons, Elluminate, Basecamp, Ning, Blackboard and WebEx given their limitations with the DOE system. Further to this, we would like to use the tool to collaborate/provide access for our with our project partners (experts in the field) who are both in informal education (Museum) and NASA.
Any advice/feedback on the above programs as a project online collaborative tool, or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
