The steam engine exhibit at the Science Museum in London, UK is simply astonishing. It is a chronological history of the development of the steam engine showing a real example of each innovation along with the explanation of the science of why that feature was an improvement. It is more than just the history of the steam engine, but a terrific example of how science, technology and society evolve, co-exist and grow.
A must visit for anyone going to London.

No apologies necessary. I too like to see working machines especially
steam even through my childhood did not overlap with the end of the
steam era. One of my dissapointments is the retirement of our steam
engine demonstration. Need to show tat everything is not an electronic
black box made by Apple
