The photograph shows the 250 original seats in the Lecture Hall, which were used from Buhl's opening in 1939 through Buhl's closing as a museum in 1991 until Buhl's closing as a tutorial center (for Carnegie Science Center classes) in 1994. Forty of these seats are still in use in the Bowdish Gallery (different location from original Lecture Hall), by the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, which is now utilizing the original Buhl Planetarium building.

An interesting feature of these seats is that under each seat (connected to the bottom of the seat) is a wire hat holder for temporary storage of a gentleman's hat.
