Here at the Museum of Science in Boston we developed the circular slide
tray and it has it's advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are
that it holds up to 12 specimens & label copy, was designed with
accessibility mind and is easily maintained once set up. The
disadvantage is that the slots for mounting are round and slides need to
be cut down to fit (round hole, square peg). Also, the slots are in a
fixed position so the slides need to be perfectly aligned with the lens
or it won't work right. I've seen several variations of the linear slide
holder that allow the slides to move back and forth and up and down. The
disadvantage is the number of slides you can put on the linear mechanism
(4 - 6). Having no trays allows you to put unlimited amount of slides
out, but the slides have a tendency to break or disappear.
Good Luck,
Dan
