Dear colleagues,
You’re invited to join a conversation next week, July 13-17, in ASTC Connect, the online learning center for the informal science education field. The topic: intersections between the learning sciences and informal science education.
Leslie Rupert Herrenkohl of the U of Washington, Sandra Toro Martell of the U of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and Heather Toomey Zimmerman of Penn State will be leading a discussion about what learning researchers can learn from informal science education practice—and how the learning sciences can enrich ISE practice. The discussion is part of a community-building effort funded by NSF that includes a small workshop in Milwaukee next month.
To join, go to connect.astc.org, set up an account, then sign yourself into the “CAISE Forum” area by entering the word “informal” when asked for an “enrolment key.” You’ll hear from Heather as we get started on Monday. Discussion is asynchronous, so whatever your schedule and wherever you are in the world, you’ll be able to participate.
If you can’t make this one, more discussions are ahead, hosted by the Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE). Founded in 2007 with support from NSF, CAISE works to strengthen and connect the ISE field by carrying out studies and hosting conversations around cross-cutting themes. For more information or to subscribe to the CAISE Newsletter, visit caise.insci.org.
