ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

I work with the educational programs department in my science center. As
part of our teacher professional development (PD) program, we "debrief"
at the end of each day of leading PD. For us, this looks like a
conversation among the team leading the PD. The conversation usually
dwells on how the day went in relation to what was planned and expected.
We use these ideas to identify implications for the next day, or for the
next time the PD is offered. We have found this practice to contribute
to our program's success and to our continued learning as an
organization.

I have read quite a bit about debriefing in other fields (such as in
medicine, the military, or emergency response services) but I am very
interested in finding out more about the practice in formal and informal
learning. I am curious as to if and how other informal science center's
practice "debriefing" at the end of PD experiences or other
institutional functions.

Please email me if you practice debriefing at your own institution (you
might refer to it in using another term), or if you have come across
articles or resources about this kind of conversation in informal or
formal environments, or if you have any other comments or insights.

Thanks,

Heather
