Science World British Columbia is a self-supporting non-profit
organization. Our goal is "to provide our customers with a sensational
science centre adventure that delivers competitive 'fun value' for all
ages while stimulating critical thinking and positively influencing
attitudes about science and technology."

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is primarily responsible for Science World's Public
Programs. Public Programs are activities that occur in all areas within
and/or around TELUS World of Science and are led by Science World
employees in conjunction with volunteers and/or external organizations.
Programs can be regular, seasonal, or one-time events. They can also be
short term or long term and small or large in scale. Programs are
intended to add dynamism to our offerings helping Science World to be
topical, constantly changing and engaging. Programs bring new visitors
to our facility and help develop and deepen relationships with our
diverse community. 

 

In addition to Public Programs, the Program Specialist will help
developing and implementing other activities and content offered in the
public spaces and galleries of TELUS World of Science.

 

Reporting to the Exhibits & Programs Manager, the Program Specialist
works closely with the Exhibit & Program Developers and other Science
World staff to develop, schedule, manage and evaluate the success of
Public Programs as well as other gallery activities. The position
demands an organized, creative, and independent, yet collaborative,
person who has excellent communication skills, both in dealing with the
general public and staff. The Program Specialist will also be
responsible to ensure a consistently high standard of program delivery
and development.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

*          Develop, manage and report on the annual operational budget
for Public Programs 

*          Lead research, development, communication and management of
Public Programs and other public activities 

*          Lead training for staff and volunteers related to Public
Programs and activities 

*          Develop and administer tools to evaluate and catalogue the
success of Public Programs and gallery activities

*          Research and provide content expertise to Science World staff
and visitors through Public Programs, gallery activities and other
public offerings as required

*          Maintain and update logistical communication of Public
Programs and other public activities and content within TELUS World of
Science

*          Other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS

*          A degree in Science or Arts and proven experience working
with Science World's target audience in an informal educational
environment

*          Excellent research and communication skills

*          Creative, organized, able to multi-task, and work
independently

*          Collaborative and able to work well within a team environment

*          Experience with developing and monitoring budgets

*          Able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and
evenings
