Anne: WOW afternoon melt is a great idea!
Try this:
Put a pieces of black crayon and a white crayon in a clear plastic zip bag
and put in sunlight. Which one will melt first? How about other colors?

Good afternoon all. I'm so grateful for this group of museum colleagues in
hot spots all over the country.
Next week, as part of a Cool Science Festival here at the museum, we are
hosting a little "event" called Afternoon Melt-Down, where we literally
invite guests to watch stuff melt on the front steps of the Museum.
Popsicles, salty water pops and ice balloons are all obvious contestants,
but I wanted to poll the network group to see if there are other things I
need to consider that melt in interesting ways.
Thanks in advance for your help and stay cool!
Anne
