PRISMS: <http://nsdl.org/index.php?homepage_ad=1&resource_id=727> Featured
website for the June 19th NSDL/NSTA Web Seminar

Resources that help informal educators make discerning choices when using
online materials can save time in finding good content and provide
professional expertise in their use in educational programming. The
National Science Digital <http://nsdl.org/> Library (NSDL) is comprised of
a host of resources, services, and tools that can support teachers in
integrating more digital content in their curricula.

For example, Phenomena and Representations for the Instruction of Science in
Middle Schools or the PRISMS Project <http://prisms.mmsa.org/> of the Maine
Mathematics and Science <http://www.mmsa.org/> Alliance (MMSA) is a free
site designed to make searching for scientific conceptual representations
and educationally oriented examples of physical phenomena easier and more
accessible.

PRISMS (http://prisms.mmsa.org), developed with the help of middle school
science teachers, provides feedback on resources with annotations related to
the learning concepts addressed, strengths of the resource, and ways to
augment the resource for more effective teaching and learning. These
annotations address key questions that aid and instruct teachers on how to
select resources with grade level appropriate vocabulary, suggest the
inclusion or exclusion of additional text to gradually build comprehension,
as well as define if the resource truly addresses the intended learning
goals in mind.

This website will be featured on the June 19
<http://nsdl.org/index.php?homepage_ad=1&resource_id=727> th NSDL/NSTA Web
Seminar, 6:30pm - 8:00pm Eastern. NSDL is in partnership with the National
Science Teachers Association (NSTA) to provide these free, professional
development web seminars at the convenience of your desktop. The seminar is
designed for educators of grades 6-9, including informal educators,
pre-service teachers, science education specialists, and curriculum
developers. Registration is
<http://institute.nsta.org/webseminar_registration.asp> free through the
NSTA website for this 90-minute interactive presentation featuring Chad
Dorsey of the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance.
