Dear All,
I thought you might be interested in some studies we are conducting
at the Center for Informal Learning and Schools:
(1) a study of the current scope of relationships between ISIs and
schools. Highlights of this study can be found on our website
(http://www.exploratorium.edu/cils/landscape/index.html)
(2) a follow-up study looking specifically at ISI-based teacher
development programs. What is the nature, scope, and outcomes of
these programs?
(3) another folllow-up study that looks at a subset of museums that
have developed particularly string relationships with local school
districts to understand what features of the programs are
particularly useful, salient, and valued by the districts.
(4) a study of museum-schools to look at organizational and
partnership issues involved in bringing these two cultures together
Results of all of these studies should be posted a year from now.
Our website has other resources on these issues, including some short
papers on five different topics that resulted from our annual
conference (Bay Area Institute).
http://www.exploratorium.edu/cils/research.html
One of these papers (written by me and Rob Semper) summarizes some of
the mission oriented issues around working with schools. This
webpage also has links to all of the studies being done by the
graduate students and postdocs who are a part of CILS.
Best wishes,
Bronwyn.
