One of my co-workers majored in Turf in college [I know, but I majored in English so I can't really talk!]. He mentioned two things to consider while using the inexpensive soil probes. If you can it may be worth taking a series of measurements from the soil you're working with and averaging the results. The second is that the probes may be consistent within its measurements, but may not be measuring the actual pH of the soil. You may be able to tell that the pH was going up or down, but you may not know that the actual pH is 7.6, unless you can calibrate the probe.
Good luck!

Does anyone know a simple, inexpensive way to measure the pH
of soil for a garden workshop?

Thanks,
