We have a magnetic levitation (Maglev) track for students to build and
race vehicles on. We build our own tracks and cars, but Kelvin sells
kits. The Kelvin catalog (http://www.kelvin.com/) also shows a few
timers. Wards also sells a Maglev kit.

Good luck,
Gail

The state of the art for this is ultrasonic "motion" sensors (really
position sensors). They can work with handheld interface boxes,
computers,
or even graphing calculators. The data appear on a graph in real time,
making these very powerful learning tools. Pasco and Vernier are two
manufacturers, but there are others.
