Deja vu! As a mom whose 2.5-year old kid put her tongue on a below
zero temp metal playground bar, I first had to figure out that
spitting on the tongue-bar was NOT appropriate. But I did make very
hot breath near to the junction and it worked with no blood drawn.
What Lynn said many years later (she's now 25 and in grad school so
must have some brain damage) was that we hadn't been to that
playground since summer, and she wondered if that bar still had the
funny taste that it had 6 months before. So there was a specific
reason for the tasting experiment. That's a lot of processing for a
2-year-old! My blood pressure is now back to normal.
It's a wonder anyone survives childhood. Jane

Science Outside the Box is a tiny business that celebrates the
scientist in every one of us. I am a writer and teacher, and I have
fun with science every single day. I'm especially fond of designing
classes and science magic shows for kids and parents.
