Hi Reagan,
There are no shortcuts :)...like every other game, just install it and play along.
I did few multi-user second life events in digital cinemas - it was very successful. I highly recommend it to SC as well (if planed carefully)

Hello, I'd like to go sightseeing in second life but I'm completely
clueless.
I do have an "account" , a "password" and a "character" if that's what
things are called in 2L.  I can jump, fall and move in different
directions but the landscape is barren and bleak.  How do I find the
museums in that world?
